Eglin Air Force Base had high goals for the outdoor play area of its Child Development Center facilities. The Air Force wanted the facilities to encourage children to learn about, interact with and experience nature through the playscape.
Using recycled materials, EcoPlay built composite play structures in a neutral color scheme. To complement the equipment, stand-alone play panels and playhouses, landscape architect Jennifer Salyer designed the play areas to include art, music, water, sand boxes, cedar arbors, canopy trees, curved walkways, and raised planters. Canvas shade structures provide protection from the hot Florida climate. Drought-tolerant plantings reduced irrigation needs to meet LEED sustainability objectives.
